March 2014 Busy, Busy, Busy

I am still waiting for Jody to contact me with her details....Jody won the Shetland Tundra yarn for the texting mitts.....still waiting jody, hope you are ok !

Been so busy have not had much time for blogging lately.
The sheep are getting ready to lamb so I'm running between the mill & barn almost hourly ! Got to get the lambing pens ready for those cute little Bundles arriving.....any day now, all my girls have got bags(their making an udder) & before you know it they will be out on the pasture with lambs....if the snow EVER LEAVES !
            This year we are increasing the turn out pasture & i can't wait to see them out on that Lush Grass, healthy & gaining weight. It really warms my heart to see animals having a great life !

This is the Shetland yarns we have made in the past week: Will be making more for the Frolic show in April, hope to see you there.

No Give away this month for the shetland blog but i have a giveaway on the qiviut blog so if you want to pop over there then feel free. That giveaway is for a HUGE Skein of 100% magical qiviut in 3ply Raven Black
 here is the link:www.theqiviutblog.blogspot.com

Will try to post a little sheepy give away in the next few days so please check back !

Have a happy Spring & all the best to those of you who share my Shetland sheep passion;

 'I wish you lots of healthy lambs'♥

  1. The first of my three bred ewes lambed last week with twin rams. Since she's 11 and this is her last lambing, I was SO hoping for ewes! On top of that, she only has enough milk for one, so I am taking a bottle down five times a day for the one that we almost lost before we realized he was getting anything. I hope that's all the drama this year's lambing holds for us!

  2. At least you caught him on time before you lost him ! A full lamb has a distended stomach. When you lift the lamb the gut feels round & full.The mouth too is a good way to see if the lamb is getting enough- the lips & Gums should be very warm.....hope the rest of your lambing is smooth sailing, Hugs♥

In the past i have knit throws from crappy acrylic, scratchy old sheep wool but the best were knit from soft Buffalo yarn or musk ox wool. Every throw has been gifted to friends or Family or sold as a custom knit order. Our kids grew-up wrapped in hand knit throws & to this day they still mention them from time to time.  I'm sure when this is finally finished there will be heated debate over who gets to keep it ! The Natural colours i have chosen to work with are  100% shetland in Musket colour(sample on needles shown above), 100% shetland yarn in light grey,  100% shetland in pureWhite ?,(Not sure about the white)  50% very black shetland blended with 50% grey angora rabbit, Shetland Tundra yarn in natural greyish brown with qiviut, 100% magical qiviut in 3ply ....all spun the same yardage & weight so the finished throw will be perf
